Airports Costa del Sol - "agp airport malaga"

The Costa del Sol is possibly the best known of all the Spanish Costas. It stretches approximately from Estepona in the west to Nerja in the east. The Costa del Sol is an attractive stretch of coastline with many fishing villages and towns which have now become holiday resorts. Much of the coastline has high hills or mountains very close, creating some dramatic locations. The Costa del Sol is serviced by "agp airport malaga" which is roughly central and within 1 hour drive to all parts of the Costa del Sol. Gibraltar airport also services the eastern part of the Costa del Sol.

"agp airport malaga"

One of the most important airports in Spain with over 10 Million passengers per year. Schedule, charter and budget flights from most Spanish and European cities. "agp airport malaga" is located about 6 kilometers West of the city of Malaga. There exists a train service with the station outside the international terminal, also a coach service from "agp airport malaga" to Marbella bus station.

There are many leading car hire companies based in and at the airport and a train station outside the international terminal in "agp airport malaga" from where trains run to the city every half an hour from 7.15h to 23.45h.

Buses run from the airport to the city every half an hour from 7.00h to 24.00h and from the city bus station to the airport from 6.30h to 23.30h. Taxis are also available.

Designs for a new passenger terminal at "agp airport malaga", the work for which is due to commence at the end of 2004, have now been made public.

The plans show that the terminal will be an extension of the present one, keeping everything under one roof. The main advantage of this is that passengers who arrive by coach, taxi or private car will not have to go outside at all. The capacity of the passenger terminal will be doubled, with a huge coach station in a transport exchange centre, which will include the railway.

The intended 224,000 square metres of the terminal building at "agp airport malaga" will allow 9,000 passengers to pass through at peak times, instead of the present 6,555. The car park will have double its present capacity and there will be 84 new check-in points and ten new fingers for embarking. Getting from one point to another should neither take too long nor be too complicated."agp airport malaga" (AGP/LEMG).

Gibraltar Airport
Gibraltar airport is located about 2 Kilometres from Gibraltar town centre, adjacent to the frontier of Spain. There is a regular bus service to the town and taxis are available. If visiting Spain, it's easier to walk across the frontier a few hundred yards away and collect your hire car in La Linea.

Friends and relatives meeting passengers are advised to park in La Linea as it is easier to walk across the frontier with Spain than to take a car as there are usually very long delays to get across the border, sometimes lasting 4 or 5 hours. The Spanish border guards deliberately hold up and search traffic due to the continued dispute over sovereignty of Gibraltar. There is a continual bus service to and from Gibraltar town and taxis are also available.

Flights are connected to Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead and Manchester and also to Morocco at Tangiers, Casablanca and Marakesh.

During World War II, Gibraltar's value as a base was greatly increased by the construction of the airfield. Originally it was just an emergency landing base for the Navy, built in 1939 on the old race course at North Front.

In order to handle larger aircraft, the runway was extended onto reclaimed ground, extending out into the bay. It is still run by the RAF but it used by several airlines serving Gibraltar. The road to Spain runs directly through the middle of the runway and has to be closed when aircraft land and take-off.

The airport is small by comparison to most but has a shop and an information centre. Taxis can be found directly outside the terminal building, as can the bus stop for buses to the city centre. The airport is next to the border with Spain, just a short walk away. There is a car park opposite the terminal building for long and short term. If you are entering Spain and require a taxi, you need to walk over the border and take a Spanish taxi as Gibraltar taxis are not allowed to enter Spain.
